A Historic Performance of Die Zauberflöte at Goethe Theater

On October 5 and 6, 2024, Mozart's opera Die Zauberflöte (1794 Weimar version) was performed at the Goethe Theater in Bad Lauchstädt.

The Goethe Theater is a historic venue that Goethe himself once directed, and it is unique in that it has been preserved and operates exactly as it did when it was built in 1802.

The entire theater is constructed of wood, and all stage mechanisms are operated manually. For instance, when the curtain rises and falls, it is done by hand, with stagehands pulling the ropes; set changes are also conducted manually, giving the theater a museum-like charm.

Performing in such a historic setting was a truly meaningful experience.
